Guess what I am building.

Hi there,
I thought I would kick off this Mechanical forum with my first post.



I am working in Styrene, but I am becomming interested in exoitic materials like Carbon Fibre, Teflon, and Titanium.

I don't have to worry too much about the mechanical engineering aspects as LucasFilm and many others have solved many problems already.

yes i know of course pixar has done it. I mean make own for myself.
in singapore there is no such a demand, just wished we had a community of such people her in singapore..

Not a real one, but one very lossely based on the design of the first one built by a prop department. The design changed a little over the time of creating the movies, I would like to make mine as close as possible to the first few scenes of the first movie made in 1977.

Some minor progress:


I put my previousily built kits next to it, which might give an indication of scale.

Now, just to derail my own thread a little, has anyone come across anyone working with carbon fiber or titanium or exoitic alloys or kevlar or S-glass? I emailed a company that makes motorcycle fairings in carbon fiber and got no reply and someone who works with carbon fiber on aircraft said to steer well clear of it...
